Vintage Seiko Lord Marvel 5740-8000 36,000 bph Hi-Beat Hand Winding 23 Jewels Production date June 1967 - Horseshoe caseback
In late 1966, Seiko introduced its own in house high-beat movement, the 23-jewel manual wind calibre 5740C. Rather than debut this achievement in one of its GS or KS watches Seiko choose to put its new high-beat calibre inside the Lord Marvel 5740-8000. Acknowledged as only the worlds' second 36,000bph movement, the LM 5740-8000 was manufactured between 1966 and 1977, with the early example featured here produced in June 1967. The LM5740 was the 3rd generation Lord Marvel model, and represents the peak of that line. It is a quintessential 'grammar of design' watch, with clean lines, understated elegance, and a sophisticated, technologically advanced in-house manual wind Hi-Beat movement. The sweep of the second hand on these beautiful watches is mesmerising and truly a sight to behold.
