The Poor Man's 62MAS gets its nickname due the resemblance of its dial and hands to Seiko’s first true dive watch, the 150 meter rated 6217-8000/1, which is better known as the Seiko 62MAS (autoMAtic Selfdater). Produced from 1969 until 1977 the watch was cheaper and only rated to 70m, hence the 'poor man's' moniker.
