Seiko Vintage 6139-7010 Speed Timer 5 Sports Chronograph 'Proof Proof' March 1970 - All original except for crystal and strap. These watches are sometimes referred to as the 'Military 6139' as a special version of it was issued to Japanese Special Forces, those watches have military markings on the case-back. This particular watch was made for the general public but the 'military' tag has stuck.
Comes with both straps shown in photos - 1970's Stainless steel LAMP rally bracelet and brown leather Rios 1931 Rally
This watch was one of the very early Seiko automatic chronograph’s, manufactured by the Suwa factory. The 6139 was introduced in 1969 and this particular watch was produced in March of 1970. It's getting harder to find good examples of these 'Proof-Proof' speed-timer versions which were made for the Japanese domestic market with a slightly higher grade 21 Jewel movement. What makes them unique are the numerical dial, also known as the 'military dial speed timer', making it an anomaly amongst the 6139 and 6138 watches as other models have applied markers. The watch measures at 41mm not including crown and 43 mm lug to lug. Service history is unknown but the movement is clean and free of any deterioration. Keeping amazing vintage time at +1s/d flat on the timegrapher. Automatic chronograph with a single thirty minute register at 6 o’clock. Chrono functions all working as they should, buttons click nice and firmly and it resets perfectly to zero. Day/Date functions working correctly by pushing in the crown lightly for day and more firmly for date. Cosmetically in excellent condition. Dial near perfect and no scuffs on the crystal, body or bezel.
These don't come up very often so get your hands on one of the most talked about Seiko speed timers
Movement: Original, SEIKO Suwa 6139A - Running well, fantastic vintage timekeeping at +1s/d flat. Worn for 24hrs to test, day/date turn over at midnight & quickset working smoothly - As with any vintage watch but especially these 6139 Seiko's it is imperative not to use the quickset between 8pm and 4am as it can break the mechanism.
Not Serviced or guaranteed waterproof
Dial: Black, in excellent condition, some minor wear to very edge of chapter ring between 11 and 1 that is not really noticeable to the naked eye.
Day/Date at 3 o'clock Day in English and Kanji, features the classic Saturday in blue, Sunday in red
Glass: Looks almost perfect, may have been replaced.
Hands: Hour and minute hands are very good although lume has some discoloration. Second counter and sub-dial hands have some minor deterioration to the surface but match well and look perfectly in tune with the watch, I believe all hands to be original. These watches came with a variety of colours to the second and sub second hand - Red, Orange and Yellow - this watch has the yellow which over time have mellowed nicely.
